KWSP to profile R&D innovation at Advanced Engineering 2017

High performance engineering solutions provider, KWSP, will profile its game-changing research and development capabilities at this year’s Advanced Engineering exhibition (1st and 2nd November, NEC Birmingham). Highlighting a variety of projects, which each aim to push the boundaries of innovation and proficiency, the KWSP team will demonstrate its expertise in driving the technology of tomorrow.

Encompassing numerous competences including digital manufacturing, composites, additive manufacturing and Industry 4.0, each development programme is being delivered in consortia with some of the world’s most respected organisations from across industry and academia. Attracting widespread funding and bringing innovative capability to market, the projects demonstrate a disruptive approach to high-performance engineering.

On stand E31, members of the KWSP team will be on hand to share best practice, process, approach and knowledge with delegates. Key programmes include:

DriverLean – A novel suspension system that integrates in-hub electric motors into four-wheel tilting vehicles, the DriverLean programme aims to improve grip, reduce rolling resistance, aerodynamic efficiency, load handling and emissions performance for single occupancy vehicles. Applicable to both the urban mobility and high-performance vehicle markets, the programme is being delivered in partnership with Wesley Motorsport Design Ltd.

ePorthos – By combining nascent deposition technology with data capture, design and computer-aided manufacture (CAM) tools, ePorthos aims to develop an additive manufacturing programme to enable ‘while you wait’ manufacture of foot orthosis. As one of three partners from across academia and industry, the project has already received funding from Innovate UK.

B.my.jet – With a key goal of developing the industry’s first desktop braille printer, the B.my.jet project will see patented digital deposition printing techniques applied to create a cost-effective solution for the visually impaired. Funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, KWSP joins three partners from across Europe.

UltraMAT – A three-year collaborative programme, comprising a consortium of eight partners from across industry and academia, the key purpose of UltraMAT is to enable production of manufactured components with step improvements in specific strength/modulus, fatigue life and lightweighting. A novel technology for materials processing of fluid and semi fluid phases that are widespread in manufacturing, utilising power ultrasound with purpose-shaped force fields allows for controlled movement and size creation of uniform Nano structures.

ToPCaT – An innovative carbon fibre-reinforced chassis concept, ToPCaT provides a low cost, lightweight and fully recyclable alternative to traditional steel, aluminium or carbon monocoque designs. The key advantage of ToPCaT lies in the novel application of bonding, joining and overall platform architecture. KWSP has now delivered a proof-of-concept chassis and is actively engaging early adopters and collaborative p[partners for the next stage of technology exploitation.
